Dumbbell Standing Front Raise Twist

A front raise with one dumbbell held by its ends, carried up on straight arms to overhead above one shoulder, then the other.

How to do it

Setup

Standing tall, feet hip-width, one dumbbell held horizontally by its ends at the thighs.

Steps

  1. Raise the bell in front on straight arms and carry it up to overhead above one shoulder.
  2. Lower it back to the thighs under control.
  3. Raise it again to overhead above the other shoulder.

Common mistakes

Arching the lower back to get the bell overhead: ribs down, glutes tight; go lighter. Bending the elbows on the way up: straight arms carry the bell. Twisting hard at the waist: the arms travel on the diagonal, the torso stays square.

Breathing

Exhale on the raise, inhale lowering.
