Dumbbell Split Squat Front Foot Elevated

The dumbbell split squat with the front foot raised on a low step and the bells hanging at the sides; the deeper range works the front hip harder.

How to do it

Setup

Front foot on a low step, back foot a long stride behind on its toes, a dumbbell in each hand at the sides.

Steps

  1. Lower the back knee toward the floor, bells hanging straight.
  2. Let the front knee travel over the toes as the hips sink.
  3. Drive up through the front foot to the top.

Common mistakes

Bells swinging forward: they hang still at the sides. Pushing off the back foot: it only balances; the front leg lifts you. Back knee slamming the floor: stop just above it.

Breathing

Inhale down, exhale up.
