The seal row with dumbbells, which allows a longer pull at the top.

Dumbbell Seal Row, illustrated

How to do it

Setup

Face down on a raised bench, bells hanging on long arms.

Steps

  1. Row the bells past the bench line, elbows along the body.
  2. Squeeze the blades at the top – the dumbbells allow extra height.
  3. Lower to a full hang.

Common mistakes

Wasting the extra range: pull HIGHER than a bar could go. Swinging the bells: dead stops. Head lifting to watch: neck stays neutral.

Breathing

Exhale on the row, inhale in the hang.
