Dumbbell Overhead Squat
The overhead squat with a dumbbell locked out in each hand instead of a bar; each arm holds its own weight steady overhead.
How to do it
Setup
A dumbbell locked out overhead in each hand, feet shoulder-width, toes slightly out.
Steps
- Squat as deep as the arms can stay locked overhead.
- Keep the bells over the middle of the foot.
- Drive up through the whole foot, elbows locked.
Common mistakes
Bells drifting forward at depth: stop higher and push up into them. Elbows bending under the load: lighter bells. One arm lagging behind the other: move both as one.
Breathing
Big breath at the top, exhale past the sticking point.
