Dumbbell Lying Woodchop
From lying with a dumbbell held overhead, sit up and chop it across to the outside of one hip; lie back and chop to the other side next.
How to do it
Setup
On your back, knees bent, feet flat, one dumbbell held by the handle in both hands on straight arms behind the head.
Steps
- Sit up, swinging the bell over the head and across the body.
- Finish upright with the bell beside one hip, the chest turned toward it.
- Roll back down, the bell returning overhead; chop to the other side next.
Common mistakes
Heaving the bell to launch the sit-up: the chest leads and the arms follow. Bell slamming down beside the hip: set it down under control. Back arching as the bell returns overhead: keep the ribs down and stop above the floor.
Breathing
Exhale on the chop, inhale returning.
