Dumbbell Lying Rear Lateral Raise

Face down on a flat bench, raise the bells out to the sides; the bench takes the lower back out of the lift.

How to do it

Setup

Face down on a flat bench, bells hanging below the shoulders, elbows soft.

Steps

  1. Open the bells out to the sides to shoulder height.
  2. Keep the chest and hips on the bench.
  3. Lower slowly to a full hang.

Common mistakes

Chest lifting off the bench: the pad holds you; stay down. Elbows bending into a row: the soft angle stays fixed. Head lifting to watch the bells: neck long, eyes down.

Breathing

Exhale opening the arms, inhale lowering.
