Dumbbell Low Split Squat

The extra-long, low split squat holding a dumbbell in each hand; the bells nearly brush the floor at the bottom.

How to do it

Setup

Dumbbells at the sides, feet an extra-long stride apart, rear heel up.

Steps

  1. Drop the hips low, the bells hanging straight.
  2. Keep the rear leg long as the front knee bends.
  3. Push the floor away with the front foot.

Common mistakes

Bells touching down: stop just above the floor. Shoulders sagging under the weight: blades back, chest tall. Front heel peeling off the floor: sink straight down, heel planted.

Breathing

Inhale down, exhale up.
