Dumbbell Ipsilateral Split Squat

The split squat with one dumbbell on the front leg's side; the torso must not lean toward the load.

How to do it

Setup

Long split stance, one dumbbell hanging beside the front leg, the free hand on the hip.

Steps

  1. Lower the back knee toward the floor.
  2. Keep the shoulders level, not tilted to the weight.
  3. Press up; finish the side, then switch leg and hand.

Common mistakes

Leaning toward the dumbbell: stay upright; the tilt steals the leg's work. Front knee caving under the load: track it over the toes. Rushing the bottom: pause just above the floor.

Breathing

Inhale down, exhale up.
