Dumbbell Incline Powell Raise
The Powell raise side-lying on a steep incline bench: the top arm lifts the bell from a hang in front of the chest until it points straight up.
How to do it
Setup
Side-lying on a steep incline bench, the lower forearm on its top, the bell hanging in front of the chest in the top hand.
Steps
- Raise the bell on a nearly straight arm until it points at the ceiling.
- Keep the hips and shoulders stacked against the bench.
- Lower it back to the hang in front of the chest; switch sides after the set.
Common mistakes
Rolling the chest back to help the bell up: the trunk stays side-on; only the arm travels. Bending the elbow into a pull: keep it nearly straight. Letting the bell drop into the hang: lower it as slowly as you raise it.
Breathing
Exhale on the raise, inhale lowering.
