Dumbbell Good Morning Squat

The good morning squat loaded with one dumbbell held behind the head in both hands: hinge with a flat back, sink into a squat from the hinge, then stand.

How to do it

Setup

Standing tall, feet shoulder-width, one dumbbell held behind the head in both hands, elbows pointing forward.

Steps

  1. Hinge forward with a flat back until the torso nears parallel, the bell kept behind the head.
  2. Keeping the chest angle, drop the hips down between the heels into a squat.
  3. Stand up through the whole foot, the chest rising with the hips.

Common mistakes

Letting the dumbbell press on the neck: hold it off the neck with both hands. Hinging with a rounded back under the load: a shorter hinge with a flat back. Heels lifting in the squat: sit back until the whole foot stays down.

Breathing

Inhale hinging, exhale standing.
