Dumbbell Glute Dominant Step-Up

The glute-dominant step-up with a dumbbell in one hand and the other hand on a bar for balance; the forward lean is held from bottom to top.

How to do it

Setup

Working foot on a box, a dumbbell in one hand, the other hand on a bar in front, torso leaning forward.

Steps

  1. Push the heel into the box and straighten the working leg.
  2. Let the dumbbell hang straight down from the shoulder.
  3. Sink back down slowly; switch legs and hands after the set.

Common mistakes

Dumbbell swinging with the step: move smoothly and keep it hanging. Leaning on the bar: it steadies, it does not lift. Back rounding in the lean: hinge at the hips, chest long.

Breathing

Exhale stepping up, inhale down.
