Dumbbell Front Squat

The squat with a dumbbell racked on each shoulder instead of hanging at the sides; the load in front keeps the torso upright.

How to do it

Setup

Standing, feet shoulder-width, a dumbbell on each shoulder, elbows forward.

Steps

  1. Squat to parallel or below, the elbows up.
  2. Keep the torso upright under the bells.
  3. Push the floor away to stand.

Common mistakes

Elbows dropping: the bells tip forward; keep the elbows up. Heels lifting: sit back a little and keep the weight on the whole foot. Knees caving: track them over the toes.

Breathing

Inhale down, exhale up.
