Barbell Clean-Grip Front Squat

The front squat with the bar in the clean grip: hands just outside the shoulders, fingers under the bar, elbows high.

How to do it

Setup

Bar on the front of the shoulders, hands just outside them with the fingers under the bar, elbows high, feet shoulder-width.

Steps

  1. Squat deep with the torso upright.
  2. Keep the elbows high all the way down.
  3. Stand up with the hips and the chest rising together.

Common mistakes

Wrists too stiff for the rack: let the bar rest on the shoulders; the fingers only guide it. Elbows dropping: the bar rolls forward; drive them up. Chest collapsing at the bottom: brace before each rep.

Breathing

Big breath at the top, exhale past the sticking point.
