Dumbbell Decline Hammer Press

The decline dumbbell press with the palms facing each other; the neutral grip keeps the elbows along the body and eases the shoulders.

How to do it

Setup

Decline bench with the legs locked, a dumbbell in each hand over the lower chest, palms facing each other.

Steps

  1. Lower the bells to the sides of the lower chest, elbows close.
  2. Keep the palms facing each other the whole way.
  3. Press back up over the lower chest.

Common mistakes

Bells turning to a normal grip at the bottom: the neutral palms are the variant. Bells drifting toward the face: on the decline they stay over the lower chest. Sitting up with heavy bells: lower them to the chest first, then rise.

Breathing

Inhale down, exhale pressing.
