Dumbbell Contralateral Forward Lunge

The forward lunge with one dumbbell in the hand opposite the front leg; the front hip works to stay level.

How to do it

Setup

One dumbbell at the side, opposite the leg that steps, free hand on the hip.

Steps

  1. Step forward with the leg opposite the bell.
  2. Lower to a hover, hips square.
  3. Stand; switch the bell with the leg.

Common mistakes

Bell on the same side as the front leg: it goes in the OPPOSITE hand. Torso tilting toward the bell: stay upright; the obliques hold you. Front knee drifting inward: keep it over the toes.

Breathing

Inhale stepping in, exhale pushing back.
