Dumbbell Bench Squat

The dumbbell squat to a bench behind you, bells at the sides; the bench sets the depth and teaches sitting back.

How to do it

Setup

A dumbbell at each side, feet shoulder-width, a bench just behind.

Steps

  1. Sit back until the hips brush the bench.
  2. Keep the bells hanging straight down.
  3. Stand up, driving the hips forward at the top.

Common mistakes

Sitting fully on the bench and relaxing: brush it and go. Bells swinging forward: they hang still at the sides. Chest dropping to reach the bench: sit back, not down.

Breathing

Inhale down, exhale up.
