Dumbbell Bent-Over Y Raise

Hinged over without support, both straight arms raise the bells forward and up into a Y in line with the torso.

How to do it

Setup

Hinged forward with the knees bent, back flat, bells hanging under the shoulders, thumbs up.

Steps

  1. Raise both straight arms forward and up into a Y in line with the torso.
  2. Hold the hinge; the back angle does not change.
  3. Lower the bells under the shoulders slowly.

Common mistakes

Standing up as the arms rise: hold the hinge; the shoulders do the lifting. Arms drifting out into a T: the Y is narrower. Rounding the upper back: chest proud, neck long.

Breathing

Exhale on the raise, inhale lowering.
