Dumbbell Bent-Over Single-Arm Row

The one-arm dumbbell row with only the free hand on the bench and both feet on the floor; the legs and trunk hold the hinge the knee would otherwise take.

How to do it

Setup

Both feet on the floor, hinged over, the free hand on the bench, the bell hanging under the shoulder.

Steps

  1. Row the dumbbell to the hip, elbow along the body.
  2. Keep both shoulders level.
  3. Lower to a long arm.

Common mistakes

Twisting to heave the bell: the shoulders stay square. Standing taller each rep: the hinge holds. Leaning the weight onto the bench hand: it steadies; the legs support.

Breathing

Exhale on the pull, inhale lowering.
