Dumbbell Bar Grip Sumo Squat

The sumo squat holding one dumbbell level by its handle in both hands, instead of hanging it from one end.

How to do it

Setup

Wide stance, toes turned out, one dumbbell held level by its handle in both hands, arms long.

Steps

  1. Squat straight down, the bell lowering between the knees.
  2. Keep the chest up and the knees out over the toes.
  3. Stand by pushing the floor apart with the feet.

Common mistakes

Plates of the bell hitting the thighs: keep the arms long and the chest up. Knees caving in: push them out over the toes. Rounding the back at the bottom: sit only as deep as the chest stays up.

Breathing

Inhale down, exhale up.
