Dumbbell Arm Circles

Straight arms out to the sides with light dumbbells, swing them round in wide circles that pass from below the shoulders to above the head.

How to do it

Setup

Standing, feet hip-width, a light dumbbell in each hand, arms straight out to the sides.

Steps

  1. Circle both straight arms forward, wide and slow.
  2. Let each circle pass above the head and back down past the shoulders.
  3. Reverse the direction halfway through the set.

Common mistakes

Bells too heavy for wide circles: a light pair is plenty; the shoulders tire fast. Elbows bending as the arms tire: keep them straight to the fingertips. Shrugging the shoulders up with each circle: keep them down, the neck long.

Breathing

Steady throughout; never held.
