Diagonal Reach on Chair
Seated on a chair, sweep one arm up and over the head toward the opposite side, bending the waist with it; then the other arm.
How to do it
Setup
Seated tall on the front of a chair, feet flat and apart, hands resting on the thighs.
Steps
- Sweep one arm up and over the head, bending the waist toward the other side.
- Keep the other hand on the thigh and both sit bones down.
- Bring the arm back to the thigh and reach with the other one.
Common mistakes
Sliding across the seat with the reach: the hips stay put; the ribs travel. Arm swinging in front of the face: reach up and over, in line with the ear. Tipping forward over the knees: bend straight to the side.
Breathing
Exhale reaching over, inhale returning.
