Deep Push-Up on Parallel Bars

The push-up with the hands on low parallel bars, so the chest can sink below the hands for a deeper stretch than the floor allows.

How to do it

Setup

Hands on low parallel bars under the shoulders, body one line from head to heels.

Steps

  1. Lower the chest between the bars, below the hands.
  2. Stop at a stretch you can press out of.
  3. Press back up to straight arms, hips in line.

Common mistakes

Dropping into the bottom: the extra depth is loaded; lower slowly. Hips sagging as the chest sinks: brace the trunk. Elbows flaring wide at the bottom: keep them near 45° from the body.

Breathing

Inhale down, exhale pressing.
