Deep Push-Up

The push-up with the hands on the handles of two dumbbells lying on the floor, so the chest can sink below the hands for a longer stretch.

How to do it

Setup

High plank, hands gripping two dumbbells set on the floor under the shoulders, wrists straight.

Steps

  1. Lower the chest between the bells, below the level of the hands.
  2. Keep the elbows about 45° from the body in the deep position.
  3. Press back up to straight arms.

Common mistakes

Dumbbells rolling under the hands: use hex bells that sit flat. Sinking deeper than the shoulders tolerate: go only as low as stays pain-free. Elbows flaring out at the bottom: they track at about 45°.

Breathing

Inhale down, exhale on the press.
