Cable Standing Lift

The lift of the chop-and-lift pair: from a low pulley beside the near hip, the handle is pulled up to the chest and pressed high over the far shoulder.

How to do it

Setup

Standing side-on to a low pulley, feet wide, both hands on the handle beside the near hip.

Steps

  1. Pull the handle up across the body to the chest.
  2. Press it up and away above the far shoulder, the trunk turning.
  3. Return the same way to the near hip.

Common mistakes

Standing square to the stack: start side-on and finish turned. Leaning back to press: keep the ribs down. Letting the cable drag the arms down: lower with control.

Breathing

Exhale on the upward sweep, inhale returning.
