Bodyweight Standing Military Press Wall Supported

A press without weight, back to the wall: the arms rise from a goalpost shape to straight overhead, parallel rather than in the wall angel's wide Y.

How to do it

Setup

Back against the wall, elbows bent to 90° at shoulder height, arms close to the wall.

Steps

  1. Press the hands straight up until the arms are straight and parallel overhead.
  2. Keep the lower back and the head on the wall.
  3. Draw the elbows back down to shoulder height.

Common mistakes

Ribs flaring and the back arching as the arms straighten: brace and keep the lower back on the wall. Elbows dropping forward off the wall at the start: set them back before the press. Pushing into a painful pinch overhead: stop the press below it.

Breathing

Exhale pressing, inhale returning.
