Bodyweight Standing Back Stretch

Hands clasped low behind the back, draw the shoulders back and down until the blades meet, then ease off; a posture drill.

How to do it

Setup

Standing tall, feet hip-width, fingers laced behind the back, arms long.

Steps

  1. Roll the shoulders back and down, drawing the blades together.
  2. Let the clasped hands move a little away from the back.
  3. Ease off slowly and repeat.

Common mistakes

Lifting the hands high behind: that is the biceps stretch; keep them low. Arching the lower back: the ribs stay down and only the shoulders move. Shrugging: shoulders away from the ears.

Breathing

Exhale squeezing the blades, inhale releasing.
