Bodyweight Heel Elevated Bulgarian Split Squat

The Bulgarian split squat with the front heel on a small wedge; the knee travels further and the thigh works harder.

How to do it

Setup

Rear foot on a bench behind, front heel on a small wedge or plate, hands on the hips.

Steps

  1. Sink straight down, the front knee sliding over the toes.
  2. Keep the front heel pressed onto the wedge.
  3. Drive up through the front foot.

Common mistakes

Heel slipping off the wedge: set it squarely first. Hips drifting back to spare the knee: its forward travel is the point. Bouncing out of the bottom: pause, then stand.

Breathing

Inhale down, exhale up.
