Bodyweight Glute Dominant Step-Up

A step-up with the torso leaning forward and the hands on a bar for balance; the lean and the heel drive shift the work to the glute.

How to do it

Setup

Working foot on a box, hands on a bar or rail in front, torso leaning forward with a flat back.

Steps

  1. Drive through the heel on the box, keeping the lean.
  2. Straighten the working leg while the back leg hangs free.
  3. Lower slowly until the back toes touch the floor, then drive again.

Common mistakes

Standing bolt upright at the top: keep the lean to keep the glute working. Pulling on the bar: the hands only balance. Pushing off the back foot: it just touches down.

Breathing

Exhale stepping up, inhale down.
