Battling Ropes Alternate Arms Side Lunge

Make alternating waves with the ropes while stepping into a side lunge to one side and then the other; the lunge adds the legs to the arms' conditioning work.

How to do it

Setup

Facing the anchor, a rope end in each hand, feet wide, knees soft, chest up.

Steps

  1. Whip the arms up and down in turn to keep the waves running.
  2. Shift into a side lunge, hips back over the bending knee.
  3. Push back through the middle into a lunge on the other side, waves unbroken.

Common mistakes

Waves dying as you lunge: the arms keep their rhythm through every shift. Knee caving on the bent leg: track it over the toes. Rounding over the ropes: chest up, hips back.

Breathing

Steady with the rhythm.
