Barbell Sitting on Floor Oblique Twist
Sitting on the floor with a light bar across the upper back, turn the shoulders from side to side; the floor locks the hips harder than a bench does.
How to do it
Setup
Sitting tall on the floor, legs crossed or straight in front, a light bar resting across the upper back, hands wide on it.
Steps
- Turn the bar slowly to one side as far as the spine turns easily.
- Stop the turn, then come back through the middle.
- Turn to the other side with the chest lifted.
Common mistakes
Letting the bar's momentum finish the turn: stop each twist short of the end of the range. Rounding the lower back on the floor: sit on a folded mat or cross the legs. Bar on the neck: it rests on the upper back.
Breathing
Exhale on each twist, inhale through the middle.
