Barbell Seated Front Raise

The barbell front raise from the end of a bench; seated, the legs and hips cannot rock the bar up.

How to do it

Setup

End of a bench, feet flat, bar on the thighs, overhand grip shoulder-width.

Steps

  1. Lift the bar off the thighs to shoulder height, arms straight.
  2. Sit tall; the torso does not lean back.
  3. Lower slowly until the bar touches the thighs.

Common mistakes

Leaning back to start the bar: sit tall and take lighter plates. Bar drifting above shoulder height: level is the top here. Bouncing off the thighs: a dead stop between reps.

Breathing

Exhale on the raise, inhale lowering.
