Barbell Rollout
The ab wheel rollout with a loaded barbell as the wheel: from the knees, roll the bar out on its plates and pull it back with the abs.
How to do it
Setup
Kneeling behind a loaded barbell, hands shoulder-width on the bar, shoulders over it, back flat.
Steps
- Roll the bar out on its plates, arms straight, until the body is long.
- Stop where the lower back would start to sag.
- Pull the bar back to the knees with the abs, not the hips.
Common mistakes
Lower back sagging at the far end: roll out only as far as the trunk stays rigid. Bar drifting to one side: grip it evenly, hands the same distance from the plates. Hips leading the way back: pull with the abs so the chest and the hips return together.
Breathing
Inhale rolling out, exhale pulling back.
