Barbell Rear Delt Row
The bent-over row with a wide grip and the elbows out, pulled to the upper chest; the rear delts take the pull from the lats.
How to do it
Setup
Hinged until the torso is near level, knees soft, bar hanging in a wide overhand grip.
Steps
- Pull the bar to the upper chest with the elbows out wide.
- Stop when the upper arms pass the line of the back.
- Lower to long arms without leaving the hinge.
Common mistakes
Elbows tucked to the ribs: that is the lat row; keep them wide. Torso rising with each rep: the hinge stays level; lighter bar. Shrugging to finish: neck long, the rear delts end the pull.
Breathing
Exhale on the row, inhale lowering.
