Barbell Frog-Stance Deadlift

The deadlift from a frog stance: heels close together, toes turned far out and the knees opened wide, with the hands gripping inside the knees.

How to do it

Setup

Heels close together, toes turned far out, knees spread wide, grip inside them, hips low, chest up.

Steps

  1. Press the knees out over the toes and stand up.
  2. Keep the bar close as the hips rise.
  3. Lock out, then sit back down into the frog stance.

Common mistakes

Knees falling in over the arches: they point where the toes point. Heels drifting apart: set them close before the pull. Torso tipping forward from the low start: the chest leads the hips up.

Breathing

Big breath and brace before the pull, exhale after lockout.
