Barbell Core Squat
The squat with the bar held in the hands at the collarbones and the elbows pointing down, not resting on the shoulders as in a front squat; the trunk works to keep it steady.
How to do it
Setup
Feet shoulder-width, a light bar held against the collarbones, elbows pointing down.
Steps
- Squat to full depth keeping the torso upright.
- Keep the bar pinned to the collarbones all the way down.
- Stand up without letting the bar roll forward.
Common mistakes
Loading it like a front squat: the hands carry the bar here; keep it light. Bar sliding away from the body: pull it back to the collarbones. Torso folding forward at the bottom: stop where the chest can stay up.
Breathing
Inhale down, exhale up.
