Barbell Bench Front Squat

The front squat down to a bench; the bench marks parallel and the torso stays as upright as in any front squat.

How to do it

Setup

Bar racked on the front of the shoulders, elbows high, a bench a half-step behind.

Steps

  1. Squat straight down until the hips touch the bench.
  2. Keep the elbows up at the touch.
  3. Stand, driving the elbows and chest up first.

Common mistakes

Sitting back as in a box squat: the front load wants you upright; go straight down. Elbows dropping at the touch: the bar rolls forward; lift them. Relaxing on the bench: stay braced.

Breathing

Inhale down, exhale up.
