Barbell Band-Assisted Deadlift

The deadlift with bands hanging from the top of a rack to the bar; they are stretched at the floor and help the bar off it, then slacken toward lockout.

How to do it

Setup

In a rack, a band from the top of each upright looped over the bar; bar over the mid-foot, grip just outside the legs.

Steps

  1. Pull the bar off the floor with the bands' help.
  2. Keep driving as the bands slacken near the top.
  3. Lock out, then lower as the bands stretch and take the load again.

Common mistakes

Bands of different length: the bar tilts; loop them the same on both sides. Relaxing at the top where the help runs out: the lockout is all yours; finish it. Setting the bar off-center under the bands: they pull it forward; line up under the loops.

Breathing

Big breath and brace before the pull, exhale after lockout.
