Barbell Reeves Deadlift
The deadlift gripping the rims of the plates instead of the bar; the extra-wide grip makes the upper back and the fingers work far harder.
How to do it
Setup
Bar on the floor, a hand on the rim of each plate, hips low, chest up, back flat.
Steps
- Squeeze the plates and pull the shoulder blades down.
- Drive up with the hips low enough that the back stays flat.
- Lock out tall, then lower the bar to the floor under control.
Common mistakes
Plates slipping out of the fingers: use plates with a rim to hold, or chalk. Upper back rounding under the wide grip: shoulder blades down and back before the pull. Loading it like a regular deadlift: the plate grip fails far sooner.
Breathing
Big breath and brace before the pull, exhale after lockout.
