Backward Press Shoulders Mobilization

Standing with the back to a rack upright, press the straight arm back into the post and hold, nothing moving; the back of the shoulder works.

How to do it

Setup

Back to a rack upright, standing tall, the straight arm hanging with its back against the post.

Steps

  1. Press the arm straight back into the post.
  2. Hold the push with the chest up and the shoulder down.
  3. Ease off slowly, then work the other arm.

Common mistakes

Rolling the shoulder forward to push: keep the chest open and the shoulder back. Bending the elbow: the arm stays straight. Arching the lower back into the push: ribs down; only the arm presses.

Breathing

Steady throughout; never held.
