Assisted Parallel Close-Grip Pull-Up

The pull-up in the counterweight machine on its close parallel handles, palms facing each other; the counterweight carries part of the bodyweight.

How to do it

Setup

Kneeling on the assist pad, hands on the close parallel handles, palms facing each other, arms long.

Steps

  1. Draw the shoulder blades down to start the pull.
  2. Pull until the hands are level with the chin, elbows tight to the sides.
  3. Lower to long arms and let the pad rise with you.

Common mistakes

Setting more assistance than you need: reduce it until the last reps are hard. Leaning back off the pad: kneel upright under the handles. Stopping halfway down: full reach every rep.

Breathing

Exhale on the pull, inhale lowering.
