Alternate Leg Raise

On the back with one straight leg held at vertical, lower the other to hover over the floor and raise it back, then switch.

How to do it

Setup

On the back, arms by the sides, both straight legs raised to vertical.

Steps

  1. Lower one leg until it hovers over the floor.
  2. Keep the other leg still at vertical.
  3. Raise the lowered leg back up and switch sides.

Common mistakes

Top leg drifting down: it stays at vertical as the counterweight. Lowering leg bending at the knee: keep it long. Lower back arching as the leg drops: stop it higher.

Breathing

Inhale on each lowering, exhale on each lift.
