Triceps Press (Low Bar Position)

The body-weight triceps press on a bar racked about knee high; the flatter body puts far more weight on the arms.

How to do it

Setup

Bar racked about knee height, overhand shoulder-width grip, feet back, body one line.

Steps

  1. Lower the forehead to the bar by bending only the elbows.
  2. Brace the trunk; at this angle the hips want to sag.
  3. Press back up until the elbows lock.

Common mistakes

Starting at the low bar: earn it on a higher one first. Hips sagging at the bottom: squeeze the glutes. Turning it into a push-up: the head, not the chest, goes to the bar.

Breathing

Inhale bending, exhale extending.
