Triceps Press (High Bar Position)

The body-weight triceps press on a bar racked about waist high; the steep body leaves less weight on the arms, the place to start.

How to do it

Setup

Bar racked about waist height, overhand shoulder-width grip, feet back, body one line.

Steps

  1. Bend the elbows to bring the forehead to the bar.
  2. Keep the hips and knees straight.
  3. Push the body back to straight arms.

Common mistakes

Bending at the hips: rigid from head to heels. Elbows drifting apart: keep them shoulder-width, pointing down. Lowering the bar too soon: drop a notch only when the reps are clean.

Breathing

Inhale bending, exhale extending.
