Trap Bar Bent-Over Row

The bent-over row standing inside a trap bar, the handles held palms in at the sides; the load hangs in line with the body.

How to do it

Setup

Standing inside the bar, hinged to about 45°, back flat, knees soft, the side handles gripped palms in.

Steps

  1. Row the handles to the hips, elbows along the sides.
  2. Pause with the blades squeezed.
  3. Lower until the arms are long, the bar still off the floor.

Common mistakes

Bar tipping forward or back: grip the handles at their middle. Standing up with each rep: the hinge holds. Rounding to pick the bar up: deadlift it to the start first.

Breathing

Exhale on the row, inhale lowering.
