Straight Leg Outer Hip Abductor
Standing on straight legs with one foot crossed behind the other, push the hip of the back leg out to its side until the outer hip stretches, with nothing to lean on.
How to do it
Setup
Standing tall, legs straight, one foot crossed behind the other, arms relaxed.
Steps
- Push the hip of the back leg out to its side.
- Keep both knees straight and the chest upright.
- Hold and breathe, then cross the other way.
Common mistakes
Leaning the chest over the pushed hip: keep the trunk upright so the stretch stays in the hip. Back knee bending: straighten it; the stretch runs down the outside of the thigh. Losing balance on the crossed feet: push less far, or rest a hand on a wall.
Breathing
Slow and even through the hold.
