Standing Wall Serratus Slide with Towel
Facing a wall, press the forearms into a towel on it and slide it upward; the press keeps the shoulder blades wrapped forward while they rotate up.
How to do it
Setup
Facing a wall a forearm's length away, forearms on a towel against the wall at shoulder height, elbows shoulder-width.
Steps
- Press the forearms into the wall to spread the shoulder blades.
- Slide the towel up until the arms are nearly straight overhead.
- Slide back down slowly, still pressing.
Common mistakes
Shrugging as the arms rise: keep the shoulders away from the ears. Losing the press into the wall: the push is what works the serratus; keep it on the whole way. Arching the lower back to reach higher: ribs down, stop where the back stays flat.
Breathing
Exhale sliding up, inhale sliding down.
