Standing Toe Down Hamstring Stretch

The heel-forward hamstring stretch with the front toes pointed AWAY; the calf stays slack and the pull stays behind the thigh.

How to do it

Setup

Standing, one foot a short step ahead, knee straight, toes pointed; hands on that thigh.

Steps

  1. Bend the back knee and push the hips back.
  2. Hinge forward with a flat back until the front thigh stretches.
  3. Hold and breathe, then switch legs.

Common mistakes

Rounding the back to go lower: the hinge comes from the hips. Pressing down on the front knee: rest the hands on the thigh above it. Toes pulled up: point them away, or the calf takes over.

Breathing

Slow and even through the hold.
