Runner's Stretch

The heel-forward fold with both hands pulling the front toes UP; the pull carries the stretch from the back of the thigh into the calf.

How to do it

Setup

Standing, one heel a step ahead with the knee straight, the back knee soft.

Steps

  1. Hinge forward and take the front toes in both hands.
  2. Draw the toes back as the back knee bends and the hips sink back.
  3. Hold and breathe, then switch legs.

Common mistakes

Rounding the back to reach the toes: bend the back knee more instead. Front knee bending as the toes come back: keep it straight or take the shin. Yanking the toes: draw them back slowly and hold.

Breathing

Slow and even through the hold.
