Standing Hip Extension (Straight Leg)

Standing at a support, sweep one straight leg back from the hip; the long leg makes the glute and hamstring share the work.

How to do it

Setup

Standing tall, hands on a support, weight on one leg, the other straight with the toes just off the floor.

Steps

  1. Sweep the straight leg back as far as the hip allows.
  2. Pause with the glute squeezed, torso tall.
  3. Return the leg under control; finish the side, switch.

Common mistakes

Tipping the torso forward to lift the leg higher: stand tall; the range is small. Knee bending on the way back: keep the leg long. Swinging for momentum: stop dead at each end.

Breathing

Exhale on the sweep, inhale returning.
