Sphinx
Lying face down, propped on the forearms with the hips on the floor; a gentle backbend held for time.
How to do it
Setup
Lying face down, elbows under the shoulders, forearms flat and parallel, legs long.
Steps
- Press the forearms down and lift the chest.
- Let the belly and hips rest heavy on the floor.
- Hold and breathe, then lower the chest slowly.
Common mistakes
Shoulders sinking to the ears: press the floor away and keep the neck long. Clenching the buttocks hard: let the lower back relax into the curve. A pinch in the lower back: slide the elbows forward to soften the arch.
Breathing
Slow and even through the hold.
